Thank you for all our families who have cared for our school community through following the new COVID restrictions. Working together we can care for us all.
Many activities and events have been postponned,we are still waiting for further clarification about the Western Region Athletics Carnival and families will be notifiied as soon as possible.
Over the past couple of weeks classes have been learning about NAIDOC week. NAIDOC Week is celebrated by all Australia. This year’s theme Heal Country calls for all of us to continue to seek greater protections for our lands, our waters, our sacred sites and our cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction.
Today we celebrated NAIDOC Week in our school mass. We reflected on the following thoughts - 2021 marks the 250th Anniversary of the arrival of Christianity in Australia. Yet the Spirit of God was poured out onto the original inhabitants of this great Southern Land many, many thousands of years prior. God’s Spirit could be heard through the singing of the birds, the cascade of the waterfall, the rustle of the wind and, most importantly, in the silence.
I will be taking some Long Service Leave this term, starting on Monday 9th August. I had planned to visit my sister-in-law in WA for a significant birthday. Unfortunately, this will not be possible at this time but I will still aim to do something special during my time off. While I am on leave Mrs Rachael Morris will be Acting Principal and Miss Sarah O'Brien will step into the exec position of Religious Education Co-ordinator, working with Mrs Morris to lead our school community. I thank both Rachael and Sarah for their dedication and continued support of all within our school and thank them for all they will do in my absence.
NAIDOC Prayer ~ Aboriginal Blessing by Brooke Prentis
May our footsteps, on these ancient lands,
remind us of creation and connectedness, in our search for truth.
May the Gum Tree, from its roots to its branches,
remind us to dig deep and reach high, in our action for justice.
May the Eagle, who soars in the sky,
remind us of the power, in our call for love.
May the expanse of the lands and seas, of the sky and stars,
remind us of God’s timing in our faith in hope.
May the Holy three, Creator Spirit, Lord God, Papa Jesus,
remind us of community.
So with grace, mercy, and peace, go in truth, justice, love and hope. Amen
