Last week we celebrated Mission Week. During the week students learned about Catholic Missions and the work they are doing in Thailand to support the Good Shepherd Sisters. The Sisters have created a Kindergarten Centre which offers children from disadvantaged backgrounds a chance to go to school, learn and play with friends and receive nutritious meals.
A very big thank you to all the students for the fundraising done on our SOCKtober day. Their efforts mean we will be sending over $850 to Catholic Missions for them to continue their work.
“To be on mission is to be willing to think as Christ does, to believe with him that those around us are also my brothers and sisters. May his compassionate love touch our hearts and make us all true missionary disciples.” Pope Francis
Thank you also to Miss O'Brien, staff and students for our School Mass on Friday. During the mass we reflected on Mission Week and the Kinder/1 students and helpers prepared a wonderful liturgical celebration for us all.
Today the clasroom teachers are again working with staff from St Joseph's in Grenfell and Religious Education consultants. The teachers have the privilege of learning from Andrea Muller, who is a consultant and regional director for Innovative Global Education and Lee Herden from Catholic Education in Canberra. Staff are working in partnership to review and refine planning, teaching and assessment for this term and early next year.
Thank you to the families that are continuing to support the health of our school community. As we are still at Level 3 restrictions we are required to follow the NSW Health guidelines.
Students and staff must not attend school if unwell, even with mild symptoms of COVID-19. Any person with any COVID-19 symptoms must be sent home and not return to school unless:

- they have a negative COVID-19 test result and are symptom free.

This week we welcomed our 2021 Transition kids, they had a very enjoyable day working on their fine motor skills, reading stories and doing craft activities about Koalas. They also worked with some maths skills in Maths rotations and learnt the song "Home Amongst the Gum Trees".
We look forward to seeing all our transition kids back next week.
School Community Council Meeting
At our School Community Council Meeting discussions and decisions made:-
* Fundraising for the term will be the Pie Drive and supporting the Rotary Christmas Carnival. We will also aim to seek support through the Grain Growers Card
* 2022 Classes and Teachers were discussed. We are extremely grateful to the Catholic Education Office for their continued support with our school. 2022 staffing means we will have 4 classes next year - Kindergarten, Year 1/2, Year 3/4 and Year 5/6.
* The School Community Council has kindly agreed to cover the costs of the school Stores for 2022.
* We will host the Western Region Swimming Carnival in 2022 and we are hosting the Small Schools Swimming Carnival this term. We will need parent and family helpers for these events. Please see if you are available to assist on these dates.
Thank you again for your continued support of our school.
Western Region Public Speaking
Students in Year 3-6 have been practising the art of Public Speaking again..
Usually, students present speeches to the school community at an assembly. This year was a little different for our students in that their presentations were given through Microsoft Teams meeting.
This format of presenting to an audience online still caused some nerves and jitters but the students chosen to represent the school; Max Keeley, Belle Golding, Tyrelle Thorpe, Seraya Clarke, Rose McFadyen, Leigh Brooks, Macayla Wu and Belle Bardawil, are to be commended on their efforts and achievements.
Special congratulations to Belle Bardawil as she was chosen as one of the two best Year 3 speakers and will now represent not just St Francis Xavier School but the Western Region schools in the Archdiocesan Public Speaking Competition in November.
St Francis Xavier students and staff participated in SOCKtober on Wednesday 13th October, to celebrate and fundraise for Mission Month.
Class groups wore their brightest socks and donated coins to see who could make a money line. Well done to Kinder/Year 1 who won both the longest and the line with the most amount!
Best sock prize went to Miss Sharon. Throughout the year we also recycle all drink containers from the school to add to our Mission Fundraising. Special thanks to Macayla and Elwina who regularly bring in more drink containers for recycling!
Over $850 has been raised and will be donated to Catholic Mission Australia.
***Students must not attend school if unwell, even with mild symptoms of COVID-19. Any person with any COVID-19 symptoms must be sent home and not return to school unless:
- they have isolated for 10 days, when no medical certificate is available
- they have a negative COVID-19 test result and are symptom free.
In circumstances where children have other medical reasons for recurrent symptoms, a letter from their GP is sufficient to negate the requirement for a negative test. ***
We will be placing a summer school uniform order on Wednesday 27th, if anyone would like to order please contact Nicole before next Wednesday.
