I never thought I’d have to give up going to Mass but during Lent and beyond this was the reality that we all faced.
I’ve given up many things for Lent over the course of my life, from chocolate to impatience - and of course meat on Fridays - but I’d never been forced to give up anything, much less the Eucharist, until COVID came, and I couldn’t go to church anymore. Never in my wildest dreams did I think the Eucharist would become inaccessible to me.
So, it is with great celebration that we are now able to come together again in our Eucharistic celebration – Mass. Last Friday Stage 2/3 and today Stage 1 students participated in our parish Mass.
19th June - Mass at 11.30am for Stage 2/3
26th June - Mass at 11.30 for Year 1/2
3rd July - Mass at 11.30am for Kinder & Yr 6
3rd July Last day of Term
21st July (Tuesday) First day back for Term 3
Our School was successful in obtaining a MLHD Live Life Well at School grant. This grant, of $500, will enable us to continue to promote healthy eating in our School, with our fruit breaks at 10am each morning and celebrate together in Fruit and Vegie Week later in the year.
Reconciliation Week Celebrations
Reconciliation Week Recap
St Francis Xavier School celebrated Reconciliation Week and National Sorry Day with students in classrooms and the library learning the significance of these important dates and celebrating together last Wednesday.
Our school has subscribed to Storybox Library - https://storyboxlibrary.com.au/ (if you have forgotten the user name and password – Sfx2672 will get you in) and in this amazing resource there are many great Australian books that look at themes related to Reconciliation Week.
A couple of great books the students have covered in library are: -
Our celebration day last Wednesday was enjoyed by all students and staff. Thanks to all families that supported the fundraiser – we were able to send over $300 to Caritas. And a special thanks to all the staff, including Aunty Josie (yummy johnny cakes!!!) who helped us celebrate together.
Writing Year 3-4
This week students have been learning to write a descriptive paragraph. They watched a short animation clip called Dream Giver. This clip is designed in such a way that it develops student’s curiosity and imagination. Using the See, Think, Wonder thinking routine students explored the images and text to form careful observations and some thoughtful discussions. This activity will be built on further next week when we begin to look at how language can be used to stimulate imagery when writing.

The issue of racism is very much in our world news triggered by the recent tragic death of the American man Mr. George Floyd and the deaths in custody here in Australia.
Pope Francis in one of his insightful reflections clarified this issue so well in these words; “We cannot tolerate or ever turn a blind eye to racism of any kind as essentially it abuses the sacredness of human life.”
Let us keep this issue in our conversations and always remember that everyone is special and deserve respect and kindness!
