Classroom Update
Barrandhang (Kinder/Year 1)
Dinawan (Year 1/2)
NAIDOC Week is a vital time for our school community to celebrate and honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and achievements. It provided an opportunity for Dinawan students to learn about the deep cultural connections to Country, which are fundamental to the identity and well-being of First Nations peoples. By engaging in NAIDOC activities, our Dinawan students gained a deeper understanding of the importance of preserving and respecting these rich traditions. NAIDOC week helps foster respect, inclusivity, and a shared commitment to reconciliation, ensuring that all students appreciate the cultural diversity that enriches our nation. SFX immersed themselves in cultural learning activities, these included cultural performing arts led by Thomas Kelly from Karul Projects, painting using natural recourses (ochre) with Mrs. Golding, and Indigenous games led by Mrs. Carter.
Bidyin (3/4)
Year 3/4 Science with Miss Corcoran
Yibbai (5/6)
Years 5/6 worked with 3/4 and were challenged in maths with a new game that tested their maths thinking skills called Capture the Flag. After each question was answered teams were able to capture flags from other teams. Each colour represented a different hidden value. Points were totalled once all questions were answered. Quick thinking and some sneaky strategies were key to the winning team.
