Classroom Update
BARRANDHANG (Kinder/Yr 1) and Dinawan (Year 2/3)
As part of our preparation for the K/1/2/3 Assembly, the K-3 students participated in an art activity where they drew pictures of their favorite foods. Students were asked to write one or two sentences explaining their favorite food and why they liked it. Many students found it difficult to choose just one favorite and mentioned two or three instead. Watermelon was a popular choice among many, with reasons including that it is juicy and yummy.
During the assembly, the K/1 students had the opportunity to stand up and present their artwork and sentences to the audience. While completing the activity, many conversations could be heard about students’ favorite foods, with students comparing their choices and explaining their reasons.
Bidyin (Year 4/5/6)
In the following lesson, students explored how to make objects appear three-dimensional, using light and shadow to simulate a light source. They learned how to shade different 3D forms and apply these skills to more complex shapes.
Building on this, students dove into the world of Optical Illusion Art (Op Art) with a 3D Paper Cone Drawing activity, inspired by artists Victor Vasarely and Bridget Riley. They practiced drawing precise curved lines to form "cones" and explored the element of art: value, learning how to use black and white pencils and markers to create shading, highlights, and contrast.
Students are taking great care and patience with these artworks, applying layering techniques to bring real depth and illusion to their designs. While the projects are still in progress, we can already see some truly eye-catching and convincing optical effects taking shape.
We can’t wait to share the final results soon!
