In Week 6, our Year 5/6 students set off on an exciting four-day excursion packed with history, culture, and fun. On Monday, the group travelled through Hay, enjoying a stop at the Shear Outback, where they watched a live shearing demonstration and explored the museum. They continued on to Echuca for a scenic port walking tour before finally arriving in Ballarat. Tuesday was spent stepping back in time at Sovereign Hill and the Eureka Centre, where students explored Australia’s gold rush history. They experienced a range of immersive activities — learning about the value of gold from a bank teller, watching a lolly cooking demonstration, investigating and acting out historical figures, witnessing a gold pour, and participating in an interactive museum tour focused on the Eureka Stockade and its salvaged flag.

On Wednesday, the group travelled to Bendigo, where they rode the vintage tram, toured an underground mine, and visited the Golden Dragon Museum. Later that day, they headed to Shepparton. The final day included a town-wide adventure, searching for the many scattered, life-sized, painted fibreglass cows, followed by a visit to the Moooving Art exhibition. There, students learned about artist Brett Whiteley and created clay artworks inspired by his bird-themed pieces. On the way home, they stopped at the iconic Big Strawberry before enjoying dinner in Griffith and completing the final leg of the journey. It was a memorable trip filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable experiences.
