Principal's Report

A very warm Autumn welcome to our families,

Reinforcing that we are all lifelong learners, several staff have been involved in professional learning opportunities this week.  We look forward to sharing our learning with staff and implementing strategies in our classrooms.  Many thanks to staff who remained at school, ensuring everyone remined safe, engaged and happy.

Teachers are to be congratulated on the amazing learning happening in the classroom and throughout the school.  It is an absolute privilege to be part of such a committed, creative team.  We look forward to the opportunity to welcome families into the school to share students learning progress so far this year.

As we continue to prepare for Easter we reflect on our value statement – Mission through courage, kindness and reconciliation.  Students will learn about Olivia’s story this week -

“Aspire not to have more, but to be more.”

We are now in the third week of Lent with the Project Compassion story of Oliva, a 22-year-old woman from Tanzania. She did not have the opportunity to go to school and was embarrassed that she was unable to read, write or count. As an adult, her business was losing money because she couldn’t add up her money and give the right change to customers.

Then Oliva enrolled in Caritas Australia’s literacy and numeracy classes. She also set up a home classroom to teach her neighbours, for free, because they were too shy to attend larger classes.

Oliva has now graduated, attendance at her classes are growing, her kiosk is thriving and she is helping her children with their homework. She aims to become a pastor and run for leadership in the next local election - to help her community to ‘Be More.’

  • Approximately 260 million children don’t have the chance to go to school (org)

We started the week, acknowledging those students who have achieved 95% or above attendance this term.  Thank you Miss Nicole and Aunty Georgina who had to make 21 milkshakes to celebrate 21 amazing students! Congratulations to Year 2 who had the best percentage as a year group.

Please look out for upcoming dates and notifications.  We have several events occurring in the later part of this term – Sacrament of Reconciliation, Leadership Conference, Cross Country Colour Run and the Big Vege Crunch.

We also remind families that the School Community Council meeting is on Tuesday 9th March at 6:00pm.  All are invited, the more involved, the better support for our students learning.

As term 2 gets closer, the mornings are getting cooler.  We encourage families to check all clothing is labelled before sending to school.

Thank you for continuing to partner with us to support your children’s learning,
Rachael Morris
