Birds to Bush Tucker - Woolworths Grant
The aim of our project is to purchase native fruit plant collections to build a Bush Tucker garden to be used in cultural and environmental education, along with harvesting for food, and encouraging native birds to our garden, through bird houses that will be located across the school grounds and around the garden area.
The children will be involved in choosing Bush Tucker seeds, designing, building and planting the Bush Tucker garden. They will also maintain and harvest produce whilst learning about Bush Tucker through eating the produce. Students will paint bird houses in inviting cultural designs, create a plan for the birdhouse locations, ensuring birdhouses are maintained and monitored.
The expected (environmental and educational) outcomes of the project include:
* Students will learn about culture, plant life cycles and why native plants are important for our environment and how to successfully grow and harvest native plants. * Through hands on learning they will also see how birds are important to the environment and what birds live in our area.
The children and teachers are looking forward to working and learning from this project and we’ll keep you updated on the results.
Thank you to Rebecca Keeley and Mr K for the work in receiving this grant.
