Anzac Day
Anzac Day with Mrs Morris....
Many thanks to our staff, students and families who joined us for the ANZAC march and ceremony, what a fantastic way to start the term. Growing up in Canberra, ANZAC Day was a sacred day in my family. My family, cousins, uncles, aunts would attend the Dawn Service at the War Memorial, then brekky at my Grandparent’s house trying to get warm enough to head back for the hours-long march. It was always a race to see who could spot my grandfather first, marching with his mates! We would then go back to their house for the footy and hear stories of my Da and his brother and mates. When we were little, the stories were of the good times. As we got older, the stories described the horrors and hardship of war. ANZAC Day for me now, as an adult, parent and teacher is probably more significant. I’m not sure if I was more proud of student participation, all schools and Boarders in uniform, marching together, or having the opportunity to stand with the amazing team at SFX to pay our respects to service men and women past and present. Even more special this year is having staff and students who were born in or have, New Zealand heritage. We are tasked with sharing the stories, learning and showing gratitude with our students to keep ANZAC Day significant. Thank you Frank, Ted, Ian and other organisers for the opportunity to participate. Well done Lake Cargelligo!
