During 2022 our educational focus will be to improve Literacy and Numeracy skills — staff, students and families working together so all our students achieve at least 12 months growth. Other goals for the year are:
Build a community that continues to learn - Implement system Literacy and Numeracy initiatives which will increase student assessment data.
Enhance and maintain the wellbeing of all - Continued increase of attendance rates and implementation of school-wide Well Being Policy.
Build a community that is connected - Increased promotion of the school Vision and Mission statements throughout the community and to continue to increase family attendance at school events.
Religious Life of School - Prayer
Spirituality Day
We kicked off Term 4 with a day of reflection and inspiration. We were lucky to gather with staff from West Wyalong and Grenfell to participate in a Spirituality Day around the theme of Flourishing, led by the Canberra RE Leaders. The day provided time and space to reflect on our vocation as teachers and purpose of community. Many thanks to all the staff involved in the planning and preparation of the day. It was a great way to start the term.
Throughout October we focus on the importance of 'The Rosary', a special prayer form for Catholics. The rosary is a devotion in honour of the Mary, Jesus' mother. Through the Rosary, we learn more about the life and love of Mary and Jesus. It consists of a set number of specific prayers: Apostles’ Creed, Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be. Each decade is devoted to a mystery regarding the life of Jesus or his mother. The 20 mysteries are divided into four groups of five: The Joyful Mysteries, The Sorrowful Mysteries, THe Luminous Mysteries and The Glorious Mysteries. Staff and students will be spending time this month, learning and praying this sacred prayer.
Please join us on Friday for our first prayer liturgy for the term. Years 3/4 will lead us in prayers for Catholic Missions as part of open day.
During Term 3 in our Years 3-6 classes we implemented Spelling Mastery. This program uses Direct Instruction/ Explicit Instruction methodology. Direct Instruction is evidence based instruction. It is a scripted form of instruction that has explicit learning design built in and creates a foundational sequence of learning.
Staff are completing Professional Learning Modules through G2GSA to prepare for the implementation of Connecting Maths Concepts (CMC) and Oz-e-Science in Term 1 2023.
We are very excited to be working with G2GSA and appreciate all the support and coaching they have provided for our leadership team already this year. More information will be shared through our newsletters and Facebook page as well as at our School Community Council Meeting next week.

I recently saw a cartoon of two children sittng under a tree.
One asks, “I wonder what teachers do on school holidays?”
The other replies “I dunno, maybe sit round drinking coffee in a quiet classroom waitng for us to come back. So lonely!”
Our school family was thrilled to join with the parish community to celebrate 8 students, as they received the Sacrament of First Eucharist. Many thanks to Fr Dominic, Mrs Morris, Mrs Golding and the 3/4 class for preparing the students and to the staff who assisted on the night. Special mention to Miss Karli and the Bardawil family for creating such a special celebration.
Congratulations to the students!

Shout out to the teachers and students for the RE teaching and learning that has been happening in classrooms this term. Students are able to discuss what they are learning and have gained knowledge and understanding of the questions they set at the start of their units. Teachers are providing fantastic opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning and make concrete links to their own world. Each class has had the opportunity to prepare a liturgy this term and it’s been fantastic to see so many families attending these masses. We also extend our congratulations to our students who recently received the Sacrament of First Eucharist, it was a beautiful celebration.
Next term we have several dates on the RE calendar – classes will prepare mass each fortnight (even weeks), we will celebrate the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, the Feast of the Assumption, Catholic Schools Week and our leadership class will prepare and celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. Information regarding this will be provided to families early next term.
We look forward to sharing our work in RE with families next term.
School Family Recipe Book - Reminder
Our School is putting together a family recipe book this year, to collate all the recipes we have used in cooking lessons at school but also as a fundraiser for the school.
If you have any favourite family recipes please drop into the school or email to alison.wheeler@cg.catholic.edu.au
Belle Bardawil participated in the Intergroup (Central Western Group, Far Western Group and Oxley Group) CWA of NSW public speaking competition for schools on Monday 29th of June 2022 at Cowra. It was a great day with wonderful speeches from all students.
We congratulate Belle on achieving a Highly Commended with her speech topic ‘I’m In Trouble’. There were 12 students participating over-all, that were winners and highly commended for their various groups.
Three students, including Belle, were representing the Oxley group on the day. Check out her speech on Facebook, she is very clever!
Commonwealth School Data Collection Notice
The Australian Government Department of Education, Skills and Employment (the department) would like to advise all parents and guardians that it collects certain information about your child’s school, its staff, and student body.
Why is this information collected?
This information is collected by the department in accordance with the Australian Education Act 2013 (the Act) and the Australian Education Regulation 2013 (the Regulation). The Act and the Regulation require the legal entity responsible for the administration of the school (the approved authority) to provide certain information to the department.
The department collects this information to:
• Ensure the provision of Australian Government funding to schools is properly calculated and appropriately managed.
• Conduct research, statistical analysis and develop school education policy for the Australian Government.
• Meet national and international reporting obligations on school students in Australia.
• Publish and provide information about schools to the public.
How is information collected?
Information is provided by a school or their approved authority via various data collections on the SchoolsHUB website.
What information is collected?
• The Student Residential Address and Other Information Collection (Address Collection) provides student residential addresses (excluding student names), and the names and addresses of parents/guardians of students for eligible full or part-time primary and secondary students enrolled at most non-government schools.
• The Financial Accountability (FA) assurance activity is done to certify that the financial assistance provided by the Australian Government for schools has been spent or committed to be spent to provide school education.
• The Financial Questionnaire (FQ) reports the income, expenditure, assets and liabilities from all non-government Australian schools receiving Australian Government recurrent grant funding.
• Student Attendance (STATS) provides a school’s student attendance rate data by grade, gender and Indigeneity from non-government schools for full-time students in Years 1 to 10 attending regular and special schools.
• The Non-Government Schools Census (Census) provides information about the number and characteristics of the school’s staff and student body during a specific reference period.
• Census Special Circumstances Applications may also be made by schools to include a student/s who did not attend during the Census reference period but otherwise meets Census eligibility requirements. Schools will provide the department with information and documents about the student demonstrating their eligibility. The department does not require information that personally identifies a student and asks schools to de-identify any documents before providing
them.
How will the information be used and disclosed?
Some of the information collected by the department from schools in accordance with the Act and the Regulation, may be ‘personal information’ for the purposes of the Privacy Act 1988 (Privacy Act). Personal information is protected by law, including under the Privacy Act. Any use or disclosure of your personal information must occur in accordance with the Regulation. Personal information is information or an opinion about an identifiable individual. Personal information includes an individual’s name and contact details.
When student information is provided to the department by schools or approved authorities, the department requests that the information must not explicitly identify any student. For example, student names or student identifiers are not provided. To help protect your child’s privacy, we support schools to submit their reporting requirements using de-identified records.
What do you need to do?
You do not need to do anything. Your school is responsible for providing the requested information to the department.
