During 2023 our educational focus will be to improve Literacy and Numeracy skills — staff, students and families working together so all our students achieve at least 12 months growth. Other goals for the year are:
Build a community that continues to learn - Implement system Literacy and Numeracy initiatives which will increase student assessment data.
Enhance and maintain the wellbeing of all - Continued increase of attendance rates and implementation of school-wide Well Being Policy.
Build a community that is connected - Increased promotion of the school Vision and Mission statements throughout the community and to continue to increase family attendance at school events.
The last couple of weeks have seen the following -
- our school run the successful Small Schools Athletics Carnival with the assistance of many amazing staff and parents. Congratulations to the students that will represent our school at the Western Region Athletics Carnival in Tumut this Friday. Thank you to the families that will support this opportunity. We wish Leigha, Jay, Sophie, Haydn, Rose, Beau, Sasha, Jayden B, Matilda, Ivy and Aiden safe travels and a successful day.
- Year 5/6 students competing in the Mortimer Shield competition in Griffith - again thank you to Mrs Carter, Miss Ashlea, Miss Maddie and Miss Kelly for organising and supporting this event. Special thanks to Tony Hayward for the assistance given on the day.
- Miss Corcoran and Mrs Carter attending The Resilience Project Conference in Sydney. We appreciate the extra time and effort given by our staff to learn more and support this initiative in our school for our community.
- Lake Learning Links coaching session - this is our final year of funding so we are looking to ensure our Transition improvements continue and as a learning community with the other local schools we continue to work to support families and students as they transition in their education.
- Spelling Mastery in our 3-6 classes is seeing students improve their spelling skills. A couple of groups are getting ready to move onto the next program. We are extermely proud of our Super Spellers!
Religious Life of School - Prayer
This years NAIDOC theme, For Our Elders, is an opportunity to Learn from our Elders and more about Elders. Across every generation, our Elders have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in our communities and families. They are cultural knowledge holders, nurturers, advocates, teachers, survivors, leaders, hard workers and our loved ones.
Dear Families,
Due to an extension in the closing date families have a last chance to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) surveys. Surveys will close tomorrow, Friday 16th June at 4.30pm. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process.
As we value the role of Families within our school community we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at St Francis Xavier School Lake Cargelligo.
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. You are able to access the parent survey on your computer or mobile device by using the URL below: http://tellthemfromme.com/y4kjb

NAPLAN reporting for 2023 have some significant changes. ACARA is shifting to reporting Proficiency Standards replacing the previous Band Levels. Results from 2023 onwards cannot be directly compared with results from 2008 to 2022. This is because a new measurement scale that is more suited to the online tests has been introduced with the new standards.
However, as in previous years, you can continue to see your child’s achievement against the national average for the year.
More information for families can be found at the following website link:- https://intranet.cg.catholic.edu.au/usergroups/principals/Lists/DCP/Attachments/3110/For%20Parents%20-%20ACARA%20Proficiency%20Standards%20Comms.PDF
Student Reports and Interviews
Semester 1 Reports will be sent home to families next week via Compass. These will provide you with a very brief snapshot of how your child is going in Religion, Literacy and Numeracy and observations of Thinking, Communication, Responsibility and Collaboration. The reports will not include any comments this semester as we want families to have the opportunity to speak to teachers.
There will be Parent Teacher Interviews available for families on Monday 26th June and Tuesday 27th June. These will provide families the opportunity to meet with your child’s teachers to further discuss their progress and to plan moving forward with your child's learning in Semester 2. More information will be communicated to families via the Compass app early next week.
If any family misses this opportunity and would like another time please let us know. Families are the main educators of children and working together is important.

Her painting shows women and children teaching in the meeting place at Murrin Bridge, with the 3 languages; Wiradjuri, Ngyampaa and Barkintji. There are also the 3 rivers - the Lachlan, Darling and Murray Rivers. bringing everyone together.
Congratuations Aunty Sharon!
Mrs Carter and Miss Corcoran enjoyed the opportunity to attend The Resilience Project conference in Sydney last week. Pictured with the Founding Director, Hugh van Cuylenburg at the conference.
The key principles of the Resilience Project are Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness (GEM) and Emotional Literacy to build resilience.
GRATITUDE
Working on gratitude helps us to be thankful and appreciate what we have in our lives, rather than focusing on what we don’t have or what we want.
When we practise being grateful, we start to scan the world to look for positives! Practising gratitude everyday increases our levels of energy, helps us to feel happier and more focused, determined and optimistic. It even helps us have a better sleep, lowers levels of anxiety and depression and we are less likely to get sick. So many benefits – let’s all try to be grateful for the things and people in our lives everyday!
Family Habit Builder: Every night at dinner, have each person talk about their favourite thing about that day. We encourage families to check out TRP@HOME - a place filled with inspiration and activities for the whole family, to help improve your wellbeing and build resilience.
Book Club Issue 4 have been given out - any orders will need to be returned by this Friday, 17th June please.
