During 2025 our educational focus will be to improve Literacy and Numeracy skills — staff, students and families working together so all our students achieve at least 12 months growth. Other goals for the year are:
Build a community that continues to learn
-Improve student achievement in English & Mathematics, through HITP coaching and explicit, evidence-based teaching.
- Enhance student achievement in English & Mathematics by strengthening staff data literacy, focusing on analysing and applying data to inform and improve teaching and learning practices
Build a community that is connected -Improve student attendance and strengthen family engagement to support learning and wellbeing.
Welcome to the 2024 School Year. Students returned with lots of smiles and big stories about their holidays. After our two days of PD, it was just what the Teachers needed! Classes have quickly established expectations and routines. We have reviewed our school expectations and these have been communicated to students. Our expectations are developed to keep students and staff happy and healthy and to ensure everyone has the right to learn and grow in positives environments.
Our attempt to recruit classroom teachers continues to be a challenge. We are fortunate that our staffing remains the same as the end of last year. There have been some changes to where people sit, however student’s learning and wellbeing continues to be the priority and guides all decision making for timetables.
There are several opportunities for Families to participate in school life. This term includes mass, awards assembly, Harmony Day, Faith Formation session for Sacraments, Holy Week activities, The Resilience Project Parent Webinar, the School Community Council AGM and a Working Bee to support the playground upgrade. Dates and information will be provided over the coming weeks. We look forward to working with each of you!
Newsletters will come out each odd week. Next newsletter will include a survey for families around Communication. Please complete the form.

New direction in governance for Catholic Education within the Archdiocese
Dear Families,
An announcement has been made that there will be a new direction in governance for Catholic Education within the Archdiocese. A link to the announcement is below for your information:
https://cgcatholic.org.au/about/our-archbishop/addresses-and-statements/new-era-in-governance-of-ce/
It is intended that very little will change within schools as a result of this governance change. Further updates will be provided as the initiative progresses.

Dinawan (Year 1/2)
We are thrilled to share with you the positive start we've had to the 2024 academic year here at St. Francis Xavier with Mrs. Carter leading the way in the Dinawan classroom. Our students have embarked on a journey filled with enthusiasm, learning, and growth. Regular attendance is key to academic success. Let's ensure every Dinawan student attends school, as it directly impacts their learning and overall educational experience. Along with attendance we are aiming to prioritise healthy eating and sleep, as it is vital for overall well-being and academic success. Encouraging balanced nutrition and sufficient rest for our students assist in them thriving.
So far in our classroom, students have established positive connections, grasped the school's rules and expectations, and crafted a structured routine, setting a strong foundation for their academic journey at St. Francis Xavier in the Dinawan classroom.
Fun learning activity for the week: Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, is a significant cultural and traditional celebration observed by millions of people around the world, including many of our families here at St Francis Xavier. It marks the beginning of the lunar calendar and is a time for family reunions, feasting, and honoring ancestors. Dinawan Student's explored the book Fang Fang's Chinese New Year, which led into our theme "The year of the dragon" with students creating colourful dragons of their own.
Extra Notes: Homework and home reading:
I want to take a moment to emphasise the vital role that homework and reading play in your child's academic development. Both activities are essential components of their learning journey, offering numerous benefits that extend beyond the classroom. Homework serves as a valuable reinforcement of the concepts and skills taught in class. It provides students with the opportunity to practise and apply what they've learned independently, fostering a deeper understanding and mastery of the material. Additionally, homework encourages responsibility, time management, and self-discipline – all crucial skills that will serve your child well in their academic and professional pursuits. This can be achieved each night with short 20-30min reading, spelling, math and english activities.
Kindest Regards
Mrs. Carter
Bidyin (Year 3/4)
I hope this letter finds you well and that you had a restful summer break. As we embark on a new academic year, I wanted to take a moment to share with you an overview of the exciting learning experiences that await your child in Years 5-6 this year.
Our curriculum is designed to provide a well-rounded and enriching education, fostering not only academic growth but also the development of critical thinking, creativity, and social skills. Throughout the year, your child will explore a variety of subjects, including English, Mathematics, RE, History, Geography, Science, PE, Sport, Creative Arts and Technology.
In 5-6, students will do a project each term, this is part of their homework as well as in class learning.
For homework, students will read a chapter book and keep a journal of what they have read, this is supported in class as well. They will choose a book in library, or they can read one from home.
The Dojo program will be used to communicate to you. I will send out invitations next week for you to accept.
I look forward to working with you this year. Any issues please make an appointment at the office to see me. I work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Cheers
Marilyn
