During 2024 our educational focus will be to improve Literacy and Numeracy skills — staff, students and families working together so all our students achieve at least 12 months growth. Other goals for the year are:
Build a community that continues to learn - Implement system Literacy and Numeracy initiatives which will increase student assessment data.
Enhance and maintain the wellbeing of all - Continued increase of attendance rates and implementation of school-wide Well Being Policy.
Build a community that is connected - Increased promotion of the school Vision and Mission statements throughout the community and to continue to increase family attendance at school events.
A very big congratulations to our Kinder/1/2 students who led us through a beautiful liturgy last Friday. We know how much you practiced and how proud your teachers are. Our masses keep getting better - more singing, more praying and more families joining us each time. We are also pleased that more families are joining us for a cuppa before mass, please remember that morning tea on mass day begins at 10:45 and that the kettle is always on!
As part of our Registration preparation, we have reviewed our Supervision policy. The review has led to changes to our recess and lunch routines. As of this week, students will remain seated, under the COLA, for the first 15 minutes of both recess and lunch. This allows all students to finish their eating without rushing. Students will be reminded to take their hats and waterbottles with them, as rooms are out of bounds during recess and lunch. Once the 15 minutes is up, students will return their lunch containers, bin their rubbish and head out to play. These changes have been communicated to students.
As we head towards the end of Term 2, students will be participating in assessment tasks as Teachers begin to prepare reports. Once reports are received, families will be encouraged to meet with teachers to discuss progress. Family meetings are, tentatively, on the calendar for Monday and Tuesday in Week 10.
Many thanks to the School Community Council for their ongoing support. Well done for organising the canteen at the Small Schools Atheltics Carnival. It was a great success. The SCC plays an important part of setting future directions for the school. Please remember, nearly all, meetings are open and all families are welcome. If you would like more information or to add an item to the meeting agenda please contact Rebecca Keeley (Admin) or Kristy Brooks (Chair)
Our Leadership students received their Canberra Excursion information this week. Their first fundraiser is a Special Lunch Order - Spaghetti Bol and Garlic Bread. Please look out for the order form and support out students.
Congratulations to Ivy & Family, Kitt & Family, Ella & Family and Lizzy & Family on the safe arrival of their siblings! May God bless you and keep you all.
Lord, Almighty God, you are our Father and we are your children, who want to live for you through Jesus Christ our Lord. Strengthen and renew our hearts. When discouragement and fear try to mislead us, may your Holy Spirit help us again and again to hold fast, for no matter what difficulties arise, your will is being done and your will is good. Your name will be honored. Your kingdom will come for all nations. Your reign will come over all peoples, for they are all yours and must acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the Lord, to your honor, O Father. Amen.
Our comprehensive Literacy program plays a crucial role in supporting students to excel in their literacy skills. Alongside this program, we provide individualised support in reading, employing effective tools such as Dibbles, WARL, and WARP assessments, along with running records. These initiatives ensure that each student receives personalised attention to thrive in their literacy development.
In addition to our achievements in the above areas, Dinawan students have been delving into the rich heritage of the First Nations of Australia, the world's oldest continuous culture. We've immersed ourselves in understanding Mabo Day and the profound significance of Reconciliation. Students have found great enjoyment in exploring both new and familiar aspects of the culture and traditions of our First Nations People.
Moreover, we've had the privilege of collaborating with Clontarf to forge lasting connections. Together, we've explored cultural learning through various mediums such as art, music, and storytelling ("yarn"). These experiences have enriched our understanding and appreciation of Indigenous culture, fostering a deeper sense of unity and respect within our school community.

Year 3/4 have been looking at maps and using their artistic skills drawing a map of the world. The focus has been on looking at our neighbouring countries to Australia and making connections with what relationships Australia has with its neighbours. Students have been using maps in atlases and more interactive maps on the internet to develop their understanding of where we belong in the wider world around us.
