St Francis Xavier School Mission
Our Mission is ‘to work in an environment of mutual respect for cultures and backgrounds and celebrating the Gospel principles in order to achieve quality education for all.’
‘You are the Light of the world, let Jesus shine through you to others.’
Matthew 5:14-16
Mission through Courage, Kindness and Reconciliation
During 2024 our educational focus will be to improve Literacy and Numeracy skills — staff, students and families working together so all our students achieve at least 12 months growth. Other goals for the year are:
Build a community that continues to learn - Implement system Literacy and Numeracy initiatives which will increase student assessment data.
Enhance and maintain the wellbeing of all - Continued increase of attendance rates and implementation of school-wide Well Being Policy.
Build a community that is connected - Increased promotion of the school Vision and Mission statements throughout the community and to continue to increase family attendance at school events.
Term 3 started with all our staff attending a Spirituality Day with teachers from West Wyalong and Grenfell out at Mt Bolo. The theme of the day was 'Walking Together' focusing on our shared History in Australia and how we move forward.
Mrs Golding and Mrs Elwin had the pleasure of accompanying Year 5/6 students to Canberra last week. Students enjoyed our National’s capital and visiting many of the educational and monumental places in Canberra. Over 4 days in Canberra the students were able to visit Parliament House, National Museum, National Portrait Gallery, National War Memorial, National Arboretum, AIS, Reconciliation Walk, Questacon, National Art Gallery and Zoo and Aquarium.
A very big CONGRATULATIONS to our Wayne Kennedy and Miss Georgina Kelly who received an Archdiocesan NAIDOC Award at the NAIDOC Mass at St Christopher's Cathedral last Friday.
We are extremely grateful to Mrs Rebecca Keeley for organising the whole excursion and to the School Community Council who financially supported this excursion.
On Friday we will acknowledge the 100+ days our Kinders have been at school with an assembly at 10.15am. We are extremely proud of our Kinder students and how much they have learnt and grown in confidence. All grandparents, grand friends and families are invited to join us for this celebration. We will follow with Morning Tea and our school mass where we will thank God and celebrate our Grandparents and Grandfriends.
Western Region Public Speaking
The first round of our Archdiocesan Public Speaking competition, for Years 3-6,was held Tuesday this week against students from St Mary's Memorial School West Wyalong. 15 students competed with one student from each year group chosen to go onto the next level, which will be held next Friday, 9th August at Young.
Teachers and adjudicators noted the high standard of public speaking and it was very difficult to choose one winner. The winning students for Year 3 and Year 5 were students from West Wyalong. Matilda Morris and Belle Bardawil were the winning Year 4 and Year 6 students.
Congratulations to Matilda and Belle! We wish the girls all the best for the next level of the Public Speaking competition.
Welcome back Dinawan students, as we enter term three, we embark on another fantastic learning journey full of fun and excitement.
A few reminders: attendance at school is key to academic success; homework has started this week please ensure reading and spelling are completed each night; lots of fun events happening this term.

BOOK WEEK 2024 ~Scholastic Book Fair
Each year since 1945 the Children Book Council of Australia has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week. During this time at school we will spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators. During this week we will have a Book Character Parade, with students dressing up as their favourite book character, and a Book Fair.
The Book Fair will be held in the Library from Monday 19th August till Friday 23rd August. Please support the Book Fair as every item purchased will result in a percentage given to the school library.
Our School Counsellor, Emma McRae, will be on leave for the first half of term 3.
New referrals can still be sent through during this time via
https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form and Emma can assess these on her return.
