During 2024 our educational focus will be to improve Literacy and Numeracy skills — staff, students and families working together so all our students achieve at least 12 months growth. Other goals for the year are:
Build a community that continues to learn - Implement system Literacy and Numeracy initiatives which will increase student assessment data.
Enhance and maintain the wellbeing of all - Continued increase of attendance rates and implementation of school-wide Well Being Policy.
Build a community that is connected - Increased promotion of the school Vision and Mission statements throughout the community and to continue to increase family attendance at school events.
Half a term down already! It's wonderful to see how quickly our students have become comfortable and confident with the routines and expectations of school life. They continue to develop strong relationships with their teachers, classmates and school mates. Each class has established learning protocols, allowing students to know what to expect now and next. Staff have developed school-wide protocols. These protocols guide how students enter and exit environments, attention grabbers and signalling for Direct Instruction programs. The benefit of implementing protocols across the school provides consistency across groups and classes.
Students achieve better outcomes when families and teachers work together. We have had several opportunities already, where our families have demonstrated fantastic support of our students - WR Swimming, Girls AFL Trials, Canteen, Community and Interagency catering. Thank you to those families, we appreciate it very much.
Our School Community Council AGM will be held on Wednesday 13th March. The SCC is a great way for families to support and guide the direction of the school. SCC Fundraising has provided learning materials for all students, for over 15 years. This means that families are not required to provide stationary items at the start of the year. The SCC worked with the school to lobby for fee reduction, this is the second year families have benefitted from this hard work. One of the next focus areas is support the school with recruiting and retaining quality staff. The SCC is an essential part of our school. We invite you to attend the meeting and help set the next priorities. A huge shout out to our current SCC, for their support and commitment to the staff, students and families of our school.
There are several more opportunities for Families to be involved this term. The big ones include: Green Day, Infant & Primary Assemblies, School Masses, Holy Week Activities and The Colour Run. Please keep an eye out for information relating to each.
Interim Reports will be available on COMPASS on Friday 15th March. These reports provide brief feedback on Learning and Social Behaviours. Families may request a catch up after this date. Teachers may request a catch up on the report.
Here's to the rest of the term being happy, safe and productive!
This year, Project Compassion brings us the stories of three resilient women from three different corners of the world. They are facing vastly different challenges, but are all united by one dream: to create a better tomorrow for all future generations.
First is Ronita from the Philippines. Ronita lives with her husband and two children in Quezon City, in the Philippines. With support from Project Compassion funds, she went back to school to finish her education so that she could earn income to support her children. “I have now graduated senior school and I am so proud of myself,” she said. “I feel hopeful for the future… Now it’s not impossible for me to achieve my dream… Thank you.”
Next Leaia from Samoa. Not having access to a reliable source of clean water was very difficult for Leaia and her family. But, with the support of Caritas Australia, a water tank was installed at their home, improving their health and living conditions.
Lastly Memory from Malawi. Memory, the eldest daughter from a rural Malawian family, trained to become a carpenter and is now a trailblazer for future generations of women in her village.
Please donate to Project Compassion -Together, we can help vulnerable communities face their challenges today and build a better tomorrow for all future generations.
You can donate through Project Compassion donation boxes, online by visiting caritas.org.au/project-compassion
Next week we will be having another fundraiser for Caritas. Monday 18th March we will have a special day for St Patrick's Feast day. Students can come to school dressed in GREEN - for a gold coin donation. We will also have a special morning tea with green cakes for sale and a 'Trash n Treasure' - all funds will go to Project Compassion.
God of all hope,
We pray for our world with all its beauty and need.
We thank you for the love in our lives that is a mirror of your unending love.
May all creation know your compassion this Lent and may we take courage to share it,
especially with those who don’t have what they need.
Through our prayer, fasting and almsgiving, move us to act in the company of your Spirit,
showing compassion and acting for justice showing compassion and acting for justice now and for all future generations.
We ask this in Christ’s name.
Amen.
